C.H. Powell Company (Tandem USA) Celebrated Its 100th Anniversary

Boston/Rotterdam, 27th of June 2019: C.H. Powell Company, globally acting logistics specialist, celebrated its 100th anniversary. The company is a founding member and shareholder of Tandem Global Logistics Network, the exclusive global network of freight forwarders.
Founded by Charles H. Powell in March of 1919, C.H. Powell Company was the first customs house broker licensed in the port of Boston. Starting with five employees handling imports and exports, the company soon assumed an international character itself with the opening of its Liverpool and New York offices in 1925 and 1929, respectively. After World War II, the company began to take on the character of a family business. By 1962, all of the founder’s sons were active in the company.
The 1960s brought important changes: C.H. Powell established its airfreight department at Boston’s Logan International Airport. The division was the first customs broker at the airport, the first to introduce a second shift to accommodate late arrivals, and the first to operate an in-house computer system. Over the following decades, the company added offices in more U.S. regions, becoming truly national in scope.

Creating a Network
In 2007, C.H. Powell, together with likeminded partners, founded Tandem Global Logistics Network. The cooperative network offers consistent, cohesive coverage under one strong brand. Tandem’s strength lies in country exclusivity, appointing only one company per country, which leads to long-term partnerships based on trust. C.H. Powell Company is one of the members of Tandem’s executive board.
