Connecting Hong Kong and Canada: A Step Toward the Smart Port Future

Our respected colleague and former Executive Board Member Patrick Lo, President of Tandem Canada (Canaan Group), continued his mission to visit every Tandem Partner, in Hong Kong last week. Here is his report:
"Last week, I had the opportunity to visit Tandem Hong Kong’s new office — an exciting move to a prime location with a growing team positioned as the gateway to the China and Asia markets. Over lunch, we had a productive discussion about strengthening collaboration between our teams in Canada and Hong Kong.
Hong Kong is preparing to launch its Port Community System (PCS) — a platform similar to the PortBase system in the Netherlands — marking a major milestone in its journey toward becoming a smart portTandem Canada was invited to share insights with the Hong Kong government subsidiary, LSCM (Logistics and Supply Chain MultiTech R&D Centre), at Cyberport, highlighting how the future of digital forwarding will be powered by data and data sharing. Without robust data management, logistics companies will struggle to keep pace with the rapid transformation ahead.
Looking forward, Tandem Canada also plans to collaborate with the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park on future-oriented projects, including AI-driven innovation and digital logistics solutions. Ensuring that all Tandem offices are connected through CargoSoft will be essential to align our data systems and remain at the forefront of the industry’s evolution.
We also reflected on the Young Tandem Professionals (YTP) initiative. While participation has been modest, there’s strong potential to revitalize engagement by accelerating how innovative ideas are implemented. We’re optimistic about turning this momentum into meaningful action and empowering the next generation of leaders within Tandem."
